Idris Barzani (1944 – January 31, 1987) was a pivotal figure in the history of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). Renowned for his virtue, integrity, and strategic brilliance, his talents were recognized early on by his father, the legendary Mustafa Barzani.
Kurdish history records him as a man of immense physical strength and military skill, yet also as a gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply patriotic leader. His role was instrumental in every major event of the Kurdish liberation movement. His untimely death from a heart attack in 1987 was a profound loss.
